TRAUMA & TREMORING
yo everyone. i have sent this link out to a number of friends and acquaintances since i came across it last year and then just thought i might as well put a link here about trauma and tremoring. thus far it has seemed pertinent to mention it to those i know mostly who have post-traumatic symptoms from activism/war and/or, as anne boyer put it, ‘from living as women which is also war’.
the idea is that tremoring releases the stress hormones that your body makes during crazy times of fight/flight. when bodies aren’t able to tremor after stressful events, the hormones get stuck in there and continue to wreak havoc. this therapist/trauma expert person David Berceli has compiled a book of very simple physical exercises designed to trigger tremoring and thus alleviate post-traumatic symptoms - you put different stresses on your legs and then stand/lie in positions where your body can begin to tremor. (so you make like this polar bear here.) i like them particularly because they are not tied to language, and just generally they are very relaxing and make your body feel nice afterwards.
here’s the link. looks like you can also get a kindle version.
